In a few of my last post, I stated that my goal is to go to a few local LANs across the country, to watch some players and teams compete. With one going on today at Lethal Gamers in TX, I am very disappointed that I was not able to make it. Due to some poor planning on my part, I had a prior commitment that I was not able to change. I will be open with you guys. I had booked a trip to Maui, HI with my girlfriend 6 months ago and we left yesterday. Though I am sad about not making it, I am in Hawaii right now, so I think the sad feeling will disappear quickly. However, I spoke with Larry from Lethal Gamers prior to my departure and he will be recording and uploading all of the matches to the Lethal Gamers website for me to download once the event is over. This will allow me to watch the matches of the teams and players I am considering.
As you can see I do have internet access here and will try to keep up on some matchbots or hltvs, but it would not be the same as being there in person. Hopefully there will be another LAN event when I get back that I can attend.
This is not only a post about my inability to attend the LG event, but also to give some more news regarding the United 5 Counter-Strike team search. Recently there was a falling-out between Winout the organization and their CS division. Since then I have had numerous individuals messaging me, emphasizing that I should pick that squad up. Now it isn't only individuals, but a couple of the players of that squad have also messaged me, interested in coming on board. If people can recall one of my last posts, I did mention that the Winout.CS division was a team that I was interested in. This does create a great opportunity, but below I wanted to state the pros & cons with picking up the division.
Pros
-Skill level is among the best in the country and the team has the necessary skill to compete internationally.
-Each player on the team has been in the scene for some time.
-The team has been playing together for a while now, with the exception of the new addition of Mehler to the squad.
-All located on the East coast and can possibly LAN to prepare for major events.
-They are competing in the upper levels of online leagues and doing well.
Cons
-They have changed 3 organizations now.
-They have been given the image that players on the team are not professional.
-Bad publicity like that will carry with them to the next organization.
-They were asked to do very simple things that are very important for any organization, but did not come through.
-Knowing that they are one of the strongest teams in the US, has given them that "I should get everything and anything I want" mentality.
I had an opportunity to speak with Jacobson about the fallout and I chat briefly with Kevin (aZn) about their story. My decision to pick up this team is now very questionable. I need to talk to the squad as a whole to address a few items. Hopefully an event like this that has given the team a bad image of unprofessionalism, will be a wake-up call for the players. Wanting to prove to the next organization and the community that this is not who they are, will be very important to their redemption.
So with all that said, nothing is definite, but I am willing to take certain things into consideration. I have had to deal with certain players in the past being very unprofessional and it is very tedious, frustrating work; but if ex-Winout squad is able to change their image and want to better themselves, then I could see them adorning the United 5 tag. However, I need to chat with all of them before I step forward with anything.
Once again I would really appreciate the community's suggestions, their inputs, and just inform me of what they think I should do regarding this situation.
*Side note*
I am going to upload some pictures of Hawaii into my United 5 gallery throughout the week, so if anyone is interested in seeing what things I get into, please continue to visit the site as I will try to update pictures every couple days.
